Sunday Herald Life - Newspaper cover

The front page for the magazine shown below is affective as detail is kept to a minimum. The colours are also as only red, white and black are used throughout this (apart from the blue in the title).

A close up of a young boy around the age of 8 is displayed in the middle of the page. All detail of the background behind him has been edited out to draw all attention to him. The contrast in the white background and his smoky, black hair makes him look like he is coming out from the page. His face is made to look very pale. This contrasts with his hair also.

Red liquid (thought to be blood) is used to run down from both of his eyes to make him look like he's crying blood. This may attract viewers to want to know what is wrong with him. As he is a young boy, this makes people more cautious and shocked as is stereotypical for people to look at children as having innocent minds and being unaware of violent ways.
The blood dripping down his face stands out as it is places next to his pure, white skin.
The boy is staring right at the camera to interact with the viewers.
His eyes have a red haze around them like the blood is welling up in his eyes.

A list to the right of the page is displayed to tell people what to expect when reading the newspaper.
